P712 Adventure

After blogging about P712 yesterday I thought it would be a good idea to maybe go and enjoy it with Mel last night. We had a lot of leftovers, but it was worth it to try some of the new items on their seasonal menu. Mel loved the ciabatta toast and I loved the pork belly. We also found out that their sweet utensils and glass bottles (with the stopper at the top that they use to serve water) can be found at IKEA. We will be purchasing them tomorrow. :)

Braised pork belly, balsamic, brussels sprouts

Ciabatta toasts, cannellini beans, braised greens, parmesan

Tomato sauce, hand-pulled mozzarella, basil, slab bacon

Blogspot Font

Just a quick note: I'm a little frustrated with the random glitches on blogspot. Sometimes my font sizes get goofy after I publish a post. I apologize, I promise I try to keep them uniform. :)

Pizzeria 712

I love it when someone introduces you to a new place to eat and immediately you think of all of the friends you want to bring there. I fell in love when I walked through these doors a year and a half ago. Thank you Tim Fellow. (Footnote: I fell in love with the food inside these doors, not Tim Fellow. My adoration for Tim began far before P712)

The Margarita Pizza (I usually get this one with slab bacon)

The menu at P712 is simple and consists of fresh, local ingredients, which can be a bit of a frustration when the seasonal dishes you love are out of season. Case in point: their brussels sprouts and slab bacon appetizer. A few months ago this delicious appetizer was taken off of the menu, not to return until mid-summer sometime. I was sad, but then I got over it and tried something else. :)

The one thing that I am astounded at is the location. They seem to get great business regardless of being a little hard to find. That just goes to show that the best advertising you can do as a restaurant is cook great food and let your customers do the rest. P712 seems to have done that and succeeded.

Roasted Corn Salsa Recipe

So my mom makes this roasted corn salsa. It is wonderful. She got it from the Food Network, but she kind of puts her own twist on it. Check it out:

  • 4 ears corn, in their husks
  • 2 jalapeno peppers
  • 2 vine-ripened, tomatoes, stemmed, seeded and cut into 1/2-inch dice
  • 1/2 cup diced red onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 3 tablespoons roughly chopped fresh cilantro leaves
  • 1 tablespoon roughly chopped fresh mint leaves
  • 1/4 cup fresh squeezed lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste

Directions

Soak the ears of corn (in their husks) in a deep bowl filled with cold water for 1 hour, placing a plate or other heavy waterproof item on top of the corn to keep the ears submerged.

Preheat a grill to medium. Lay the corn on the grill and cook for 20 to 25 minutes, turning frequently, until the outer leaves are blackened. Grill the jalapenos for 5 to 6 minutes, turning periodically. Remove the corn and jalapenos from the grill and set aside to cool.

Once the corn is cool, remove the husks and silk and discard. Cut the kernels off of the cobs and place in a large bowl. Stem, seed and finely chop the jalapenos and add to the bowl with the corn, along with the tomatoes, red onions, garlic, cilantro, mint, lime juice, olive oil and salt. Stir well to combine.

Seattle's Best: Chicken Teriyaki

If you are ever in Seattle you have got to check out their chicken teriyaki.

Fast, Fried, Freaking Delicious Food: Jack in the Box Tacos

If you don't agree with me, we probably can't be friends. At least good ones. No, we can be friends. Just give me some time.

Just because it's cheap and processed doesn't mean it can't be delicious. I fell in love with the Jack in the Box taco in Seattle, WA. They are a guilty pleasure of mine. The truth is, food like this just doesn't belong in my diet, or anyones, but they are delicious nonetheless.

Roy's Hawaiian Fusion

This weekend Melissa's parents took us to Roy's in San Diego. What a delicious restaurant. It's called Hawaiian Fusion food, which basically means they do lots of amazing fish dishes and sushi. They also have incredible steaks. It was a night for indulgence and that is exactly what we did...

All you can eat edamame

Jalapeno Ponzu Hamachi - Ruby Red Grapefruit, Hamachi, Avacado Panzu, Apple Mustard Emulsion

Vietnamese Lumpia & Bibb Lettuce Wrap - Green Papaya, Mint, Basil, Citrus Nam Pla

Maine Lobster Bisque - Brandy and Cream

Tender Braised Beef Short Ribs - Creamy Mashed Potatoes, Natural Braise Sauce

Grilled Filet - "Loaded" Red Bliss Potatoes, Shiitake Mushroom Pan Sauce

And finally, Melting Hot Chocolate Souffle - Flourless Chocolate Cake with a molten hot center served with Vanilla Bean icecream.

Needless to say, it was an amazing meal. You can go ahead and chalk Roy's up on my top 10 favorite places to eat, period. Thank you Diane and iJeff.

Chicken Tikka Masala

No three words ever made my ears perk up more quickly than "Chicken Tikka Masala." There is a little Indian restaurant a few doors down from my apt called Bombay House and they have some amazing CTM. A few weeks ago we talked to one of the managers and he explained to us how it is made...

Ladies and gentlemen, the Tandoori Oven:

In order to make "real" CTM you must have one of these contraptions. It is made of authentic Indian clay and costs $5,000. Awesome. Well, at least I live close to people who know how to make it.

Man vs. Food

There is a new show on the Travel Channel that has caught my heart, never to let go.
MAN VS FOOD!

Adam Richman travels the country in search of the best food challenges.

In this week's episode he had to eat this gigantic burger and a sheet pan worth of fries. I actually don't think he won. Food won. It's funny, food usually wins. He normally doesn't win these challenges, but it's fun to watch him try.
